Umbria Winter jazz festival review

(Photo of Orvieto in winter from Wikimedia commons, contributed by Adriano in 2004)
My friend Antonella lives in Perugia, so I am always on the lookout for interesting events in the region of Umbria. Recently, I found an article about the Jazz festival in Orvieto and based what is mentioned in the article, it certainly seems like there are some good options to hear jazz music.
The Twentieth edition of Umbria Jazz Winter festival will go on record as one of the best according to this review in IlSole24Ore.
Here is my translation of an excerpt of review about the Evolution Ensemble:
Once again, in Orvieto just as in Perugia, we experienced the triumph of the magic of Dee Alexander’s Evolution Ensemble with soloists including such illustrious participants as Tomeka Reid on cello, Scott Hesse on guitar, Junius Paul on bass, and Ernie Adams on percussion and with the special participation of Nicole Mitchell on flute. This performance is especially evocative of the history of Dee, Tomeka and Nicole in Italy. These three musicians met for the first time in Perugia in the summer of 2009 with the Aacm band of Chicago at which time their talents were appropriately recognized. The Evolution Ensemble held five concerts, all very different from each other (the best was perhaps the last, most difficult, inspired by the rhythm and blues of James Brown). Dee was able to show off her incredible vocal range, reminiscent of Cathy Berberian, as well her ability to cross over styles from blues to gospel, and from soul and rhythm and blues to European academic.
Ci sentiamo presto,
Lina
