The Caruso tradition continues

It has been ninety years since Enrico Caruso last sung, but his legacy lives on. First his son, and now his grandson, great grandson and his great, great grandson continue to keep his memory alive.  His great, great grandson Enrico Caruso IV will be coming from Italy to sing at an upcoming event in Brooklyn.

The evidence of the legacy of Caruso shows up in a variety of interesting ways.  If you search for articles about him online, there are scores of interesting references and homage’s from all of over the world.  While he did not have a professional career, it appears that his son was the first one to continue with the tradition.  I found out that Enrico Caruso Junior was recorded once in 1938 singing “Questa o Quella” from Verdi’s opera Rigoletto.   Here is just one example of homage to Caruso that I found on this site:  http://www.enricocaruso.dk/.      As I mentioned in my previous article, I saw evidence of the continuing popularity of Caruso’s music in his native region when I travelled to Sorrento and Napoli.  Through this blog I recently heard about the Enrico Caruso Museum in Brooklyn, New York.  They have a treasure trove of interesting material and they have tapped into the continuing Caruso tradition. In addition to the upcoming event, Enrico Caruso IV’s uncle Riccardo has sung at three events sponsored by the museum in the past.

The museum will be hosting an event February 19th, 2012 commemorating the 25th anniversary of the museum.  Members of the Caruso family will be in attendance along with Enrico Caruso IV and the famed Metropolitan Opera Tenor Marcello Giordani who will both sing at the event.  Here is a link to the information about this upcoming event.
